TOWNSVILLE CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX 2016 STAFF AWARDS

Townsville Correctional Complex holds an annual event to acknowledge the efforts of staff with the presentation of awards. This year, awards were presented on Friday, July 15 as part of the NAIDOC celebrations.

The staff awards extend over three categories and are driven by the submissions received from staff who recognise the good work being done by their colleagues. The three awards are:

The Harold Mara Mentoring Award

Harold Mara was employed as a Custodial Correctional Officer at the Townsville Correctional Centre from August 1990 to December 2007. Harold played a significant role in mentoring his fellow officers, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander officers.

Nominations for this award are requested for all staff who have consistently supported their fellow colleagues to achieve in terms of promotion, training and professional development.

2016 Harold Mara Mentoring Award winner: Andrea Hull

The Fred Lemson Quiet Achiever Award

Fred Lemson was employed at the Townsville Correctional Centre in custodial roles, most recently as a Correctional Supervisor. Fred commenced duty in April 1998 and was an active and respected officer when he passed at the age of 40 in October 2008. Fred was a non-assuming officer who just got on with the job and did not want nor expect any praise or recognition. Fred was also committed to his personal and professional development.

Nominations for this award are requested for all staff who display outstanding achievement of professional development whilst being generally unrecognised.

The Kelvin Anderson Reconciliation and Closing the Gap Award

The former QCS Commissioner, Kelvin Anderson made significant achievements in terms of reconciliation and Closing the Gap. This award recognises the efforts of Mr Anderson for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, offenders and community.

Nominations for this award are requested for all staff who actively seek to close the gap and reconcile through their work with QCS.

General Manager, Jon Francis-Jones presented Custodial Correctional Officer, Andrea Hull with the Harold Mara Mentoring Award.
